Restful Winter Sea
48 X 72, oil on canvas

Palos Verdes Peninsula looking west. This area is now the site of Ocean Trails Golf Course. I was moved to paint this scene when the chain link fences were put up and the earth movers were brought in. It was painted and exhibited for the Show entitled "An Artistic Interpretation", as a benefit for the Palos Verdes Land Conservancy in May of 1998. This painting has since been exhibited and toured in several museum exhibitions and shows.

My location where I painted Restful Winter Sea. Fences go up, equipment moved in and ground is broken.
Ground was broken in 1998 for the construction of Ocean Trails Golf Course, country club and home sites. The area being developed was on an ancient landslide which plagues Palos Verdes and San Pedro with unstable lands. In 1999, nearing the completion of the golf course, Ocean trails suffered a major landslide. A large portion of the golf course slid onto the beach below, destroying beach, tidepools and a favorite surfing location. Ocean Trails fell into major financial and legal problems and was ultimately bought and completed by Donald Trump an is now Trump National Golf Course.
