Squall off Isle de
For the marine artist, a passion for the sea and all her moods is essential. It has been there all my life. Sailing and yacht racing have played a significant part of my understanding of the sea. In 1986 I was helping to bring a sailboat back from Cabo San Lucas when we ran into a winter storm. We were halfway up the Baja Coast just off Isle De Cedros when we encountered the winter storm. We drove the boat North for a couple days through winds reaching 65 Knots at times and were pounded by waves from three different directions which is known as a confused sea. Between my watches I would make quick sketches and notes in my log. The day after I returned home I started the painting "Squall Off Isle De Cedros" from both my notes and a very fresh memory.
