Boat at Low Tide
Cozy Harbor, Maine, 12 x 16, oil on board

When I found this boat sitting in the grass I looked around for the view to paint from and set up my easel and umbrella. Then I went back to my car to get a couple more items that I would need. While at my car I thought I would take a lunch break and have a sandwich and coffee before starting the painting. Upon return to the scene I discovered that the tide had come in. The boat was now afloat and my easel and umbrella that I had set up on dry land were now standing in several inches of water. With socks and shoes off I waded out to retrieve my equipment. The next day I timed my return to Cozy Harbor well before the tide would come in. I was able to just finish painting as the water began to creep up to my feet with the incoming tide.
